Inktober 2019 Supplies and Prompts
It's my favorite time of the year...fall! And October is the best month of all! The weather is changing, pumpkins are everywhere, Halloween, and of course INKTOBER! But let's be honest, I start Inktober every year, but I've never completed it. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is my year.
PS If you are not familiar with Inktober you can read about it on the official page here.
Here are the supplies I will be using this year, which are mostly my usual supplies. In years past, I've tried out new supplies, like copic markers, liquid watercolor, regular old map pencils...you get the idea. This year I plan to push myself artistically by working on landscapes/backgrounds and on occasion maybe drawing boys. These are two things I'm not confident in.
But back to the supplies...I've tried picking a color palette to work with, so I will only be using a small number of colors from my watercolor palette. I'm also using various watercolor pencils in the same color families. Along with my trusty Aquash Water Brush from Pentel, I'll be testing out this Mossery Co sketchbook that I've been hoarding for about a year now.
I was actually inspired to use my Mossery sketchbook when I saw their prompt list for Inktober. (Pretty much there are a million different prompt lists out there along with the official list.) My theme for this Inktober is "Everyday Witch" which came to me when I saw a picture of someone walking their dog wearing a witch hat.
I'm hoping to work on landscapes and backgrounds, because I've never tried much before and I'd like to eventually illustrate my own children's books. I'm hoping with this daily practice to learn, improve, and develop my style/voice in this area.

Inktober Supplies
It's the most wonderful time of the year....FALL! Sunday is October 1st, which means it's time for Inktober. If you don't know what Inktober is, it's a 31 day drawing challenge. You can find out more information here.
I thought I would share my supplies (with links!) and a few prompt lists I've been thinking about using.
- This year I decided to go with my favorite sketchbook, Moleskine, but thought I'd try the watercolor album.
- I also grabbed the Pentel Arts Aquash Water Brushes, which I've been meaning to try for a while.
- Something I thought would be fun (and possibly a challenge) is Ecoline Liquid Watercolor. I am planning a color scheme and this Blue Violet (548) seemed like a good place to start. I'm hoping to use this for outlining with a brush, which is something I need to work on.
- A few old items I'll be using are my Angora Watercolors, various Copic Markers and Prismacolors Col-Erase pencils.
Last year I didn't have a theme and did Mab Graves Drawlloween Prompt list. I was excited because I got more than half way through the challenge, which is pretty awesome for me. This year my goal is to finish the challenge and I picked a theme: witches (since I really love Halloween).
Sam at Raicodoll just released this witchy prompt list that I thought I would try.
I felt like this one from Mossery was vague enough that you could use it with any theme.
Are you participating in Inktober? What prompt list or theme are you going with?

Ladies Sketch Club + Inktober
Happy Halloween! The day my kiddo has been waiting for has finally arrived! I couldn't sleep because I have "This is Halloween" from the Nightmare Before Christmas stuck in my head. We've watched it about 5 times a day this month.
One of my goals for October was to go to more social events (that are for me, not the kiddo). I finally worked up the courage and squeaked in a couple this past weekend. I went to the first meeting of the Lubbock Ladies Sketch Club. I was really nervous, but everyone was super nice.
The group plans to meet twice a month, and I can't wait for the next meeting. It was nice to meet other arty ladies and have some time to try and get caught up on Inktober.
Speaking of Inktober, I managed to get 17 out of 31 days done. I think that's the most I've ever completed of a drawing challenge, so I'm pretty proud of myself. So next year I'm confident I'll be able to complete the challenge.
Wednesday Addams
Jack O'Lantern
Scarecrow
Masked
Franskenstein
Bat
Ghost
Alien
Witch
I had fun working with colored pencils and have plans to paint a few of them for future prints. You can see the first half of my sketches here.
Did you participate in Inktober? What was your favorite prompt?

Inktober
Since I've closed my shop + dialed back the social media, life has been great. I definitely feel like I get so much more accomplished in a day...seriously my house has never been cleaner. Participating in Inktober has been fun. I haven't been as consistent as I would like, and hopefully I can get caught up on the days I've missed. Here is what I've done so far:
Witchsona
Costume
Sadness
Wolf
Haunted
Mummy
Devil
I've only been using pink copics + black markers, but this week I'm branching out into colored pencils (borrowing my daughters >_<). I'm a tad behind this week, but I'm working on getting caught up.
I might work on turning some of these sketches into watercolor paintings in the future and put them on Society6. xo
